Glasgow Coma
Scale
The Glasgow Coma Scale was published in 1974 by Graham Teasdale and Bryan
J. Jennett, professors of neurosurgery at the Glasgow University.
The Glasgow Coma Scale is a neurological scale which aims to give a reliable
objective way of recording the conscious state of a person. A patient
is assessed against the criteria of the the Glasgow Coma Scale and the
resulting points provides a score in the range 3-15; patients with scores
of 3-8 are usually said to be in a coma. The total score is the sum of
the scores in three categories.
