Celtic Connections Glasgow 2009 : Glasgow’s Winter Music Festival : January 2009

Glasgow's Celtic Connections is Scotland's premier annual winter music festival of contemporary and traditional Celtic music and takes place between the 15th – 31st January 2009.

Returning for a 16th year Celtic Connections features artists from around the globe alongside the very best Scottish talent. Taking place over 18 days, Celtic Connections is a major event in the folk and world music calendar.

The Argyll Hotel looks forward to welcoming visitors from around the globe to Glasgow this January when the city comes alive and is buzzing with music.

As one of the world's largest winter music festivals and the premiere Celtic music festival in the UK, there will be over 1,500 artists from every continent to perform in Glasgow.

You can look forward to 300 concerts, ceilidhs, talks, free events, workshops and late-night sessions in venues across the city!

The Line up for 2009 includes the Celtic Connections Opening Concert "The Cape Breton Connection", Sharon Shannon Big Band with Cara Dillon, Drever, McCusker & Woomble, Kathleen MacInnes, The Wilders with The Hot Seats, Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba with Jayme Stone & Mansa Sissoko, and Youssou N'Dour and Old Blind Dogs.

Other highlights to expect include the nightly Celtic Connections Festival Club (for season ticket holders) and the free Open Stage Sessions at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall Exhibition Hall.

The Venues

All of the venues are easy to find and many within a short distance of the Argyll Hotel. Most of the festival concerts take place at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall but other venues include the City Halls, the Old Fruitmarket, The Classic Grand, The National Piping Centre, the Tron Theatre, the ABC, St Andrews in the Square, the CCA in Sauchiehall Street and at Òran Mór in Byres Road which is within a short walk of the Argyll Hotel.
