Celtic Connections Homecoming Celebrations
A truly international event with the best of traditional and contemporary
Scottish Music at its core.
Honouring the influence of Robert Burns on Scottish Music and his importance
in preserving the traditions of his own cultural background, the Celtic
Connections festival celebrates his legacy with their biggest event to
date - Auld Lang Syne at the Clyde Auditorium, which will feature an array
of renowned artists in a fitting tribute to the great bard.
4th April - 20th September
Inspired : Mitchel Library
Inspired is an exhibition of art inspired by the life and works of Robert
Burns to mark the 250th anninversay of the year of his birth. The exhibition
will include work by around 50 contemporary artists, representing not
only the UK, but also Russia, Israel, Australia, Japan and the USA. WQell
known artists such as Tracey Emin and Ed Ruscha will feature as well as
established Scottish artists, including Douglas Gordon and Peter Howson.
The contemporary work will be presented alongside a small collection of
previously unseen relics. The exhibition represents a facinating and unprecedented
way to convey the influence and relevance of Robert Burns' work in the
present day.

May is Whisky Month with an invitation extended to come to the
Home of Whisky to explore and appreciate the expertise of the stillsmen
and master blenders whose diligence has created one of Scotland's biggest
exports and extensions of our culture

During the summer months, Homecoming Scotland 2009 will present some brand
new and enhanced major international events: The Gathering 2009 has been
created especially for the Homecoming year to celebrate the contribution
